H2SO3 is a colorless liquid at room temperature. Sulfurous acid is a relatively weak acid and corrosive, easy to decompose. It almost not exist in solution, but its varous salts are very common. Sulfurous acid can be used as a reducing agent or preservative.

Example Reactions:
• SO2 + H2O = H2SO3
• 2HCl + Na2SO3 = 2NaCl + H2SO3
• H2SO3 + 2NaOH = Na2SO3 + 2H2O
• SF4 + 3H2O = H2SO3 + 4HF
• H2SO3 + 2KOH = K2SO3 + 2H2O
• H2SO3 + 2LiOH = Li2SO3 + 2H2O
• Ba(OH)2 + H2SO3 = BaSO3 + 2H2O
• Ca(HCO3)2 + H2SO3 = CaSO3 + 2H2CO3
• H2SO3 + NaOH = H2O + NaHSO3
• Na2SO3 + H2SO4 = Na2SO4 + H2SO3
