P4S3 is a yellowish green solid. Its melting point is 172.5 ̊C (342.5 ̊F), boiling point 408 ̊C (766.4 ̊F). P4S3 is used to make friction strips such as matches. It may absorb water from the air and decomposes slowly to produce phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

Example Reactions:
• P4S3 + 8O2 = P4O10 + 3SO2
• P4S3 + 6O2 = P4O6 + 3SO2
