FeO is a black powder. Its melting point is 1377 ̊C (2510.6 ̊F), boiling point 3414 ̊C (6177.2 ̊F), density 5.74 g/cm3. FeO can be used as dye or pigment for making pottery, glass etc, and also as a raw material for steel production.

Example Reactions:
• FeO + PdF2 = FeF2 + PdO
• 2H2S + FeO = FeS2 + H2O + H2
• Fe + H2O = FeO + H2
• FeCO3 = FeO + CO2
• MgS + FeO = FeS + MgO
• FeO + Mg = Fe + MgO
• FeO + H2O = Fe(OH)2
• FeO + 2HCl = FeCl2 + H2O
• Fe + H2O2 = FeO + H2O
• FeO + H2SO4 = FeSO4 + H2O
