HBr is a colorless liquid. Its melting point is -11 ̊C (12.2 ̊F), boiling point 122 ̊C (251.6 ̊F), density 1.49 g/cm3. HBr is toxic. HBr in water forms hydrobromic acid. The hydrobromic acid is a very strong acid, and very corrosive.

Example Reactions:
• HBr + KOH = KBr + H2O
• HBr + LiOH = LiBr + H2O
• CH4 + Br2 = CH3Br + HBr
• C6H6 + Br2 = C6H5Br + HBr
• NH4OH + HBr = H2O + NH4Br
• LiBr + H2SO4 = LiHSO4 + HBr
• HBr + KHCO3 = KBr + CO2 + H2O
• NH3 + HBr = NH4Br
• NaOH + HBr = NaBr + H2O
• HBr + AgNO3 = AgBr + HNO3
