CaBr2 is a white powder. Its melting point is 730 ̊C (1346 ̊F), boiling point 1935 ̊C (3515 ̊F), density 3.35 g/cm3. CaBr2 is hygroscopic. It can be used as a dehydrating agent.
Example Reactions:
• 2HBr + Ca(OH)2 = CaBr2 + 2H2O
• 2NaBr + CaF2 = 2NaF + CaBr2
• 2NaBr + Ca(OH)2 = CaBr2 + 2NaOH
• 2LiNO3 + CaBr2 = Ca(NO3)2 + 2LiBr
• 2HBr + Ca = CaBr2 + H2
• CaBr2 + Na2CO3 = CaCO3↓ + 2NaBr
• CaBr2 + 2AgNO3 = Ca(NO3)2 + 2AgBr↓
• CaBr2 + 2KOH = 2KBr + Ca(OH)2
• CaCO3 + 2HBr = CaBr2 + CO2 + H2O
• 2KBr + CaS = K2S + CaBr2
