BaSO4 is a white crystalline. It is insoluable in water. Its melting point is 1580 ̊C (2876 ̊F), density 4.5 g/cm3. BaSO4 is a radiographic contrast agent. It can be used for X-ray examination of stomach and bowels.
Example Reactions:
• BaO + SO3 = BaSO4
• BaCl2 + Na2SO4 = BaSO4↓ + 2NaCl
• BaCl2 + H2SO4 = BaSO4↓ + 2HCl
• H2SO4 + Ba(OH)2 = BaSO4↓ + 2H2O
• Ba(NO3)2 + Na2SO4 = BaSO4↓ + 2NaNO3
• BaCl2 + CuSO4 = CuCl2 + BaSO4↓
• BaCl2 + K2SO4 = BaSO4↓ + 2KCl
• BaO2 + H2SO4 = BaSO4↓ + H2O2
• BaSO4 + 4C + Na2CO3 = Na2S + BaCO3↓ + 4CO
• K2SO4 + Ba(NO2)2 = BaSO4↓ + 2KNO2
