N2O4 is a colorless gas, with strong unpleasant odor. Its melting point is -11.2 ̊C (11.84 ̊F), boiling point 21.1 ̊C (69.98 ̊F), density 1.44 g/cm3. N2O4 is very toxic, corrosive. N2O4 is a powerful oxidizer, it mainly used as a rocket propellant. N2O4 reacts with water to produce nitric acid HNO3 and nitrous acid HNO2.

Example Reactions:
• N2O4 = N2 + 2O2
• 2NO + O2 = N2O4
• 2N2H4 + N2O4 = 3N2 + 4H2O
• 2NO2 + 2O3 = N2O4 + 3O2
• 2NH3 + 2O2 = N2O4 + 3H2
• N2O4 + H2O = HNO2 + HNO3
• 4N2H2 + N2O4 = 5N2 + 4H2O
• N2O4 + 2CO = 2CO2 + 2NO
• Cu + 4HNO3 = N2O4 + Cu(NO3)2 + 2H2O
