Mg(NO3)2 is a white crystalline. Its melting point is 88.9 ̊C (192.02 ̊F), boiling point 330 ̊C (626 ̊F), density 2.3 g/cm3. Mg(NO3)2 is hygroscopic, can easily catch water molecules from the air and forming Mg(NO3)2.6H2O. Mg(NO3)2 can be used as a fertilizer.
Example Reactions:
• Mg(OH)2 + 2HNO3 = Mg(NO3)2 + 2H2O
• 2AgNO3 + MgCl2 = Mg(NO3)2 + 2AgCl↓
• Mg + Cu(NO3)2 = Mg(NO3)2 + Cu
• Mg + 4HNO3 = Mg(NO3)2 + 2NO2 + 2H2O
• Mg + Zn(NO3)2 = Mg(NO3)2 + Zn
• Mg(NO3)2 + 2HCl = 2HNO3 + MgCl2
• Pb(NO3)2 + MgSO4 = PbSO4↓ + Mg(NO3)2
• MgO + 2HNO3 = Mg(NO3)2 + H2O
• Mg + 2HNO3 = Mg(NO3)2 + H2
• Mg(NO3)2 + 2NaOH = 2NaNO3 + Mg(OH)2↓
