Carbon Dioxide
Name:
Carbon Dioxide
Alias:
Dry Ice
Formula:
CO2
Molar Mass:
44.0095

CO2 is a colorless gas at room temperature. It is slightly soluble in water. Its melting point is -56.6 ̊C (-69.88 ̊F). CO2 is the main substrate of photosynthesis which is essential for plants and some microorganisms like algae. It is also the metabolism product of animals etc.

Example Reactions:
• CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O
• 2HCl + CaCO3 = CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O
• CO2 + H2O = H2CO3
• HNO3 + NaHCO3 = NaNO3 + CO2 + H2O
• 2Mg + CO2 = 2MgO + C
• HCl + NaHCO3 = H2O + CO2 + NaCl
• NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 = NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2
• MgO + CO2 = MgCO3
• Ca(OH)2 + CO2 = CaCO3 + H2O
• CO2 + 2NH3 = OC(NH2)2 + H2O
