CO is a colorless gas. Its melting point is -205 ̊C (-337 ̊F), boiling point -191.5 ̊C (-312.7 ̊F), density 789kg/m3 g/cm3. Carbon monoxide is usually produced by incomplete combustion. When inhaled, it will replace the O2 in the blood, thus poisonous to human body. Since it is odorless and colorless, it is very dangerous and caused many accidents including death in home.
Example Reactions:
• ZnO + CO = Zn + CO2
• 3Fe2O3 + CO = 2Fe3O4 + CO2
• CO + 2H2 = CH3OH
• 2MnO2 + CO = Mn2O3 + CO2
• Fe2O3 + CO = 2FeO + CO2
• 2C + O2 + CO + Fe2O3 = 3CO2 + 2Fe
• CH3CHO = CH4 + CO
• H2O + CO = CH2O2
• Fe3O4 + CO = 3FeO + CO2
• C8H18 + 6O2 = CO2 + CO + 6C + 9H2O
