CaSO4 is a white solid. It is slightly soluble. Its melting point is 1460 ̊C (2660 ̊F), density 2.96 g/cm3. CaSO4 can be used as a desiccant and as an additive to make tofu.
Example Reactions:
• CaSO4 = CaO + SO3
• CaSO4 = 2O2 + CaS
• Na2SO4 + CaCl2 = CaSO4 + 2NaCl
• CaCO3 + H2SO4 = CaSO4 + CO2 + H2O
• Ca(OH)2 + H2SO4 = 2H2O + CaSO4
• CaF2 + Li2SO4 = CaSO4 + 2LiF
• Ca + H2SO4 = CaSO4 + H2
• (NH4)2SO4 + Ca(OH)2 = CaSO4 + 2NH3 + 2H2O
• Ca(NO3)2 + Na2SO4 = CaSO4 + 2NaNO3
• CaCO3 + H2SO4 = CaSO4 + H2CO3
