Aluminum Oxide
Name:
Aluminum Oxide
Formula:
Al2O3
Molar Mass:
101.9613

Al2O3 is a white solid at room temperature. It is insoluable in water. Its melting point is 2072 ̊C (3761.6 ̊F), boiling point 2977 ̊C (5390.6 ̊F), density 3.95 g/cm3. Al2O3 is an important ingredient in making aluminium metal.

Example Reactions:
• 2Al + Fe2O3 = 2Fe + Al2O3
• 2Al + 3FeO = Al2O3 + 3Fe
• Al2O3 + 3H2SO4 = Al2(SO4)3 + 3H2O
• 2Al + 3CuO = Al2O3 + 3Cu
• 2Al(OH)3 = Al2O3 + 3H2O
• Al2(CO3)3 = Al2O3 + 3CO2
• 3Al + 3NH4ClO4 = Al2O3 + AlCl3 + 3NO + 6H2O
• Al2O3 + 6NaOH + 12HF = 2Na3AlF6 + 9H2O
• 2Al + 3MnO = Al2O3 + 3Mn
• Al2O3 + 6HCl = 2AlCl3 + 3H2O
