Fungi and Diseases

Fungi is a large group of eukaryotes, includes yeast, mushrooms, lichen, Penicillium fungus etc. Fungus are usually very small, and cannot be seen by the eye. Mushrooms and fungi colonies are infact a lot of fungus grow together. Fungus are evolutionally sophisticated than virus and bacteria, have cell walls, but lower than plant and animal. The fungi genome may have several chromosomes, sized several Megabases (Mb) to 40 Mb, and have several thousand genes. By comparison, virus usually has only several genes, and human genome has about 30,000 genes. Fungus not only provide us important foods, drugs as antibiotics, but also are important for degenerating dead plants and animals in the world. Most of Fungus do not caused disease. However some of them do cause serious diseases. Diseases caused by fungi are usually on the skin, lung, mouth and vagina tract etc that can easily be reached by things in the environment.
