Name:
Magnesium Iodide
Formula:
MgI2
Molar Mass:
278.1139

Magnesium Iodide is a white odorless crystalline solid at room temperature, density 4.43 g/cm3, melting point 637 ̊C (decomposed). It is soluble in water and alcohol. Magnesium Iodide also exists as various hydrates MgI2.xH2O.

Magnesium Iodide example reactions:
• MgCO3 + 2HI = MgI2 + CO2 + H2O
• Mg(OH)2 + 2HI = MgI2 + 2H2O
• MgO + 2HI = MgI2 + H2O
• 5MgI2 + 2KMnO4 + 8H2SO4 = 5MgSO4 + K2SO4 + 2MnSO4 + 5I2 + 8H2O
