Cr2(SO4)3 is a reddish brown crystal at room temperature. It is insoluable in water. Its melting point is 90 ̊C (194 ̊F), density 3.1 g/cm3. Cr2(SO4)3 can be used for leather tanning. Its hydrate form Cr2(SO4)3.8H2O is soluble in water.
Example Reactions:
• 3H2S + K2Cr2O7 + 4H2SO4 = Cr2(SO4)3 + K2SO4 + 3S + 7H2O
• K2Cr2O7 + 6KI + 7H2SO4 = 4K2SO4 + Cr2(SO4)3 + 3I2 + 7H2O
• K2Cr2O7 + 6FeSO4 + 7H2SO4 = 3Fe2(SO4)3 + Cr2(SO4)3 + K2SO4 + 7H2O
• 2Cr + 3H2SO4 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 3H2
• 2PbCrO4 + 16HCl + 6FeSO4 = 2PbCl2 + Cr2(SO4)3 + 4FeCl3 + Fe2(SO4)3 + 8H2O
• K2Cr2O7 + 6NaI + 7H2SO4 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 3I2 + 3Na2SO4 + K2SO4 + 7H2O
• Cr2(SO4)3 + 6NaOH = 2Cr(OH)3↓ + 3Na2SO4
• Cr2(SO4)3 + 6KOH = 2Cr(OH)3↓ + 3K2SO4
• Cr2(SO3)3 + 3H2SO4 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 3H2SO3
• 3H2SO4 + 2Cr(OH)3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 6H2O
